About the product

The MS3010 wireless IPv6 gateway/router provides secure radio communications over large geographical areas. This is ideal for areas that lack a convenient power supply and/or communication lines in zones where sensors are required.

The MS3010 is scalable, flexible, and supports collection of data in a wireless network, independent of any external power sources. Installation is rapid and simple with easy remote monitoring, self-healing and secure communication in order to ensure highly reliable connectivity.

It’s been designed to provide a robust wireless network with industrial strength connectivity that meets the most stringent requirements. What’s more, it can operate maintenance free for up to 10 years, depending on the environmental conditions, thanks to its advanced LiFePO4 batteries that can charge using integrated solar panels or an external 18 V DC battery. The product is simple to install in the field and does not require any connections to additional hardware (except for the case where external antenna is used for increased reach). The reliable wireless communication technology is based on IPv6/6Lowpan and RPL routing, which is self-configuring, self-healing and secure.

The MS3010 network typically includes:

MS3010-GW gateway unit that manages the mesh-radio network and connects to the server via the cellular network. The gateway can be installed on an electric pole or on a communication tower.
Optional MS3010-RU router units that connect wirelessly to the GW or to other RUs and sensors which are located further out in the field. All the units are collectively creating an IPv6 mesh radio network where two-way information can be sent from one unit to another until it reaches the GW and the server. It can also connect to a communication infrastructure via a RS232 or Ethernet(2). interface and function as a base station. The GW and RU are similar devices, however the GW includes a cellular modem.

FAQ / Frequently Asked Questions

Do we have the option to use fibre-optic communication to interface with a MS3010 router or gateway?

At the moment the MS3010 does not include an optical interface.

What is the difference between a Sector and Omni Antenna? Which is preferred?

Both antennas require a clear line of sight between the communicating devices.

An omni antenna will provide 360° coverage with a maximum range of approximately 10 km.
A sector antenna will provide 120° coverage with a maximum range of approximately 20 km.

Range and coverage can vary due to terrain

The area that I plan to install is larger than the antenna coverage, is there a way to extend the installation range?

Yes, adding another router at the edge of your coverage area (chain connection) will provide an additional range of 10 to 20 km, depending on the antenna used. This type of chain connection can be repeated to achieve even greater distances.

Can the master unit (MU) sensor be used as a router and communicate with other MU sensors nearby?

Yes, each MU sensor can be used as a router, acting as a link in the chain to transfer data from one MU to another until it reaches the gateway. The range and coverage of the MU is approximately 2-3 km, depending on the terrain, and requires a clear line of sight.

Troubleshooting

All the sensors lost connection to the server at the same time

1. Check remote access to the gateway and try to reset the gateway
2. Check the SIM card data package is still active
3. Send the field team to visually inspect the gateway
- Ensure the solar panel is intact
- Ensure no vegetation is blocking the solar panel
- Remove the gateway and check the battery (12 V)
- Replace gateway

Sensors that were tested with the GW before installation are not communicating after installation

1. Ensure that the current on the line is sufficient for normal operation of the sensor (5 A)
2. Ensure a clear line of sight and range between the sensor and gateway/router
3. Change set location if required

Some sensors (not all) lost connection to the server, at the same time

Your installation possibly includes an additional router to the gateway.
1. Check if the lost sensors are located in the specific area of the router
2. Try to access the router remotely for troubleshooting
- Check the battery level
- Check charging
3. Send the field team to visually inspect the router
- Ensure the solar panel is intact
- Ensure no vegetation is blocking the solar panel
- Remove the router and check the battery (12 V)
- Replace router

Does the gateway (GW) / router (RU) need to be connected to power?

No, both GW and RU are self-sustaining devices. The device includes a 12 V battery which is constantly charged from the attached solar panel.

What is the preferred location to install the GW/RU?

Since radio communication requires a line of sight between two communicating devices, we usually recommend installing the GW/RU on a high tower to ensure the clearest possible line of sight to the installed sensor.
