Megger has opened a comprehensively equipped cable test training centre at its Dover headquarters. The new centre, which is the most up-to-date of its kind in the UK, will allow Megger to provide practical hands-on training for fault location and diagnostics on low- and high-voltage cables. The facilities at the centre include a wide range of buried cables with simulated but realistic faults.

The centre is equipped with Megger’s latest products, all of which can be used by trainees to find and diagnose real faults. The instruments provided include surge generators, time domain reflectometers, insulation testers and equipment for partial discharge analysis, which means that all commonly used cable test techniques can be demonstrated and taught. Trainees will also have access to a Megger cable test van and will learn how such vehicles can be used to ensure that network downtime and consumer minutes lost are kept to an absolute minimum.

“We’re really excited to have this new training centre on our Dover site,” said Tony Wills, Megger UK training manager,  “as it complements our existing facilities for transformer test and protection relay testing, as well as our extensive training facilities in the USA. We are committed to sharing our testing knowhow with engineers and technicians in our industry, so that they can work efficiently and safely. We believe that our Dover training facilities are now the best equipped and most modern in the UK and we’re confident that the expertise of our trainers is second to none!”
