About the product
The MTR105 is a dedicated rotating machine tester that brings Megger’s proven insulation resistance (IR) expertise together with advanced low resistance, capacitance, inductance, and rotation testing in one handheld instrument. It delivers a holistic view of motor health, enabling you to assess windings, connections, and overall condition with precision and confidence. Designed for production, service, and maintenance teams, the MTR105 supports fast, reliable decisions across your asset lifecycle.
Comprehensive testing capabilities
Built on a unified test architecture, the MTR105 consolidates multiple core measurements:
- Insulation resistance with PI, DAR, timed tests, and temperature compensation for consistent, comparable results.
- DLRO four‑wire Kelvin low resistance testing for accurate measurement of joints, connections, and windings.
- Inductance and capacitance to characterise coils and diagnose imbalance or deterioration.
- Motor direction of rotation and three‑phase supply rotation to verify correct installation before energisation.
This integrated approach reduces set‑up time, cuts the number of tools you carry, and streamlines workflows in the field or workshop.
Accuracy you can trust
Stable test voltages and four‑wire measurement techniques underpin consistent, repeatable readings. Temperature measurement and compensation keep IR results aligned to reference conditions, so trends are meaningful across seasons and sites. Clear, full‑colour graphics present values and trends at a glance, allowing you to validate pass/fail criteria and move decisively to the next task.
Safety engineered into every test
The MTR105 is designed to protect both operator and instrument. Fast live‑voltage detection inhibits tests if hazardous voltage is present, reducing the risk of damage when connected to energised circuits or across phases. User‑selectable test terminal lockout thresholds add another layer of control, while robust internal protection supports safe use in CAT III 600 V environments.
Robust by design, ready for the field
A tough, over‑moulded housing and IP54 environmental protection defend against dust, moisture, and daily knocks. Detachable, interchangeable leads adapt to different applications and maintain reliable connections. With onboard storage for up to 256 motors and simple USB download, you can capture, share, and analyse results as part of a connected maintenance ecosystem.
Confident, efficient decision‑making
By unifying essential motor tests in a single instrument, the MTR105 helps you shorten diagnostics, standardise procedures, and improve asset reliability. Whether you are commissioning new equipment, verifying repairs, or conducting routine maintenance, the MTR105 provides the clarity, safety, and durability you need to work with confidence.
Connected testing with CertSuite (MTR105X)
The MTR105X builds on the proven capabilities of the MTR105 by adding Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) connectivity. This allows test results to be streamed live from the instrument to CertSuite Asset, making it easier to manage data, repeat tests, and produce reports—without changing the way tests are performed in the field.
Using CertSuite Asset on a mobile device or web browser, results can be viewed in real time, stored against specific assets, and accessed securely from anywhere. The instrument continues to operate fully as a standalone tester, with connectivity available whenever a more streamlined workflow is needed.
- Live streaming of test results during measurement
- Store and organise results by motor, generator, or asset
- Simplify repeat testing and trending over time
- Access results via CertSuite mobile app or web account
- Secure, cable-free Bluetooth communication
CertSuite Asset Lite comes as standard at no extra cost. For users that require cloud storage and Multi User Account Usage it is possible to upgrade to the full version.
Bluetooth connectivity and CertSuite Assetintegration are available on the MTR105X only. The standard MTR105 operates as a standalone instrument.
FAQ / Frequently Asked Questions
The MTR105 is tailored for professionals in industries like utilities, manufacturing, HVAC, transportation, and motor maintenance workshops. It’s particularly beneficial for diagnosing small to medium-sized motors up to 500 HP.
Yes, the MTR105 is built to withstand challenging conditions. Its IP54-rated design protects against moisture and dust, making it suitable for fieldwork and industrial use.
The built-in temperature compensation automatically adjusts insulation resistance and DLRO readings based on the measured temperature, ensuring high accuracy for your tests.
The MTR105 stores up to 256 motor results, each with a time and date stamp. Data can be conveniently downloaded to a USB device for analysis using Megger tools or your preferred software.
Absolutely. The MTR105 supports insulation resistance, continuity, and DLRO 3-phase testing for advanced diagnostics of complex machinery.
The MTR105X includes Bluetooth connectivity for integration with CertSuite Asset reporting software. All core test functions and measurement capabilities remain the same.
No. The instrument can be used fully as a standalone tester. CertSuite Asset is optional and enhances data management, trending, and reporting.
Yes. CertSuite Asset Lite provides live data streaming, result storage, and basic reporting functionality at no additional cost. For users that require cloud storage and Multi User Account Usage it is possible to upgrade to the full version for a monthly subscription fee.
Yes. Test results can be saved to a USB mass storage device and then transferred to a PC or laptop running PowerDB, exactly as with previous instrument versions.
Troubleshooting
Ensure the battery cover is securely closed and that batteries meet the instrument's specifications. Check the battery type in the device settings to match the installed cells.
Confirm you have enough storage space and have assigned test results to the correct asset ID.
Verify that the thermocouple is properly connected. If using manual input, ensure the temperature is accurately entered.
Replace the supplied ceramic fuses only with high-break capacity fuses, as specified in the user guide.
Always double-check for live circuits and de-energise them before starting tests. The MTR105 will halt any tests if dangerous live voltage is detected.
Interpreting test results
Understanding your test results is key to maintaining reliable machinery. The MTR105 makes it straightforward with its intuitive interface and clear metrics. Here’s how to make sense of your data:
- A high resistance value typically indicates good insulation integrity.
- Variations or drops in resistance may signal insulation degradation or moisture ingress.
- PI values >2 are considered indicative of strong insulation quality, while lower values may warrant inspection.
- DAR tests help detect early-stage issues. A ratio below 1.25 may need immediate attention.
- Confirm motor phase rotation using the MTR105 to reduce the risk of wiring errors and ensure proper functionality.
- Deviating capacitance or inductance readings could signal issues with winding integrity or overall circuit health.
- Measure and record mΩ results for continuity and reliability checks, keeping an eye on significant resistance increases.
