On- and off-line testing

Besides factory partial discharge testing for quality assurance, field testing becomes increasingly important for gas-insulated equipment (GIS and GIL). For field applications, UHF and acoustic detection methods complement low frequency detection, according to the IEC 60270.

AIAcompact

The AIAcompact enables both acoustic and electric partial discharge detection for gas-insulated equipment in a lightweight and battery-operated instrument. The measurement inputs provide the supply voltage for different pre-amplifiers and acoustic sensors, and it automatically selects the appropriate operation mode for each test setup. Measurement data can be stored and transmitted to a laptop or PC for further analysis.

 

ICMsystem

For an in-depth field analysis of partial discharge activity, the ICMsystem can be combined with a spectrum analyser. Megger’s software, ICMspectrum, uses and controls spectrum analysers of different vendors for partial discharge analysis (HP/Agilent 859xE, Agilent E4000, R&S FSL).

ATTanalyzer

The portable ATTanalyzer is a simple and very effective tool for locating breakdown during the commissioning of GIS and GIL. Battery-operated acoustic sensors are externally mounted to the GIS and connected via a fibre optic cable to the acquisition unit. In case of breakdown, the acoustic sensor transmits an optic signal to the ATTanalyzer when it has detected the sound wave. The ATTanalyzer then displays the signals received from all sensors against time, like a logic analyser. Following the initial localisation of the breakdown’s origin, the acoustic sensors can be repositioned closer to the fault to further pinpoint the location.
