Megger Wins 'Best Paper Award 2024' at CIGRE for Transformer Research

We’re excited to share that Megger, together with Universidad Nacional de La Plata, Intelymec and A&A Fratelli Parodi, has been awarded the Best Paper Award 2024 at the CIGRE conference in France this year. The award recognises this paper on transformer insulation aging, a key factor in ensuring transformer reliability and extending its operational life.

The paper, titled ‘Analysis of Non-Accelerated Thermal Aging of Model Windings Immersed in Mineral Oil and Natural Ester’, was a collaborative effort between the following authors from different countries and industries:

  • Diego Robalino – Megger Group (USA)
  • Raul Alvarez – Universidad Nacional de La Plata (Argentina)
  • Matias Meira – Intelymec (Argentina)
  • Fabio Scatiggio – A&A Fratelli Parodi (Italy)

Why This Research is Important

The paper aims to offer a comprehensive analysis on the aging of transformers due to insulation degradation. This is a critical area of study, particularly concerning dielectric losses and the life expectancy of solid insulation immersed in mineral oil and in natural esters.

Recognition at CIGRE

CIGRE is a biennial event, making this recognition especially significant as it highlights the lasting impact of our work over the next couple of years. The paper’s award is humbling for Megger, as it confirms the quality of our authors’ research and their international collaboration with industry and academia in advancing industry knowledge.
