Traditional line-frequency tan δ tests often mask moisture problems; only DFR yields a clear view of true insulation condition and has even identified early partial discharge activity in HV/EHV bushings.

How can we improve DC insulation resistance testing in the field?

Field environments introduce significant electromagnetic noise. You can reduce interference by using screened test leads and keeping them short. If noise enters the asset rather than the leads, only a high-noise-immunity instrument will provide accuracy. Megger’s S1 series offers 8 mA noise immunity and adjustable long-time-constant filtering, enabling reliable IR testing even in harsh EHV substations.

For which applications do I need a high-voltage DFR instrument like the IDAX322?

While 140 V RMS is suitable for most CHL insulation tests, higher voltage is recommended when:

Why is Individual Temperature Correction (ITC) important?

ITC determines an insulation system’s unique temperature-correction behaviour. Each transformer—and each insulation component within it—responds differently to temperature.

Using dielectric response analysis, ITC identifies the 20°C-equivalent PF/TD value at any temperature, allowing consistent, long-term trending even as insulation ageing or moisture levels change.
