Essential 5 kV and 10 kV insulation resistance testers
3 mA noise immunity supports consistent performance in typical industrial or distribution-level sites up to 45 kV.
PI Predictor™ estimates PI values in minutes, improving productivity with no loss in accuracy. Ideal for multiple asset tests.
RE>Act™ shows when insulation is ready to retest, avoiding errors from residual reabsorption current. Save time between tests, and safely monitor discharge to avoid dangerous return voltages.
Robust casing and IP65 protection (lid closed) withstand knocks, dust, and tough environmental conditions.
CAT IV 600 V rated, with live circuit detection and locking terminals to protect users in active environments.
About the product
The range includes two models: the MIT515 (up to 5 kV) and MIT1015 (up to 10 kV), both supporting insulation resistance, dielectric absorption ratio (DAR), and polarisation index (PI) testing. Megger’s PI Predictor™ reduces PI test duration by up to 50%, boosting productivity when testing multiple phases.
The new innovative patent applied RE>Act test mode allows the user to make accurate measurements by monitoring reabsorption current. This groundbreaking test mode can ensure reabsorption current does not result in incorrectly passing or failing insulation, helping to maintain safety. In addition, the test mode can be used to ensure dangerous return voltages to not occur.
These instruments have no onboard storage and a fixed 3 mA burn/charge current—perfect for environments where advanced features like remote control aren’t required. The high-performance guard terminal ensures measurement accuracy even in high-leakage conditions.
Simple to use, CAT IV 600 V rated, and built for demanding industrial, OEM, and utility applications, the Essential range delivers fast, dependable results—without complexity.

Megger device USB drivers (Windows 10 & 11) Download Instructions
1. Download the Megger device USB drivers file from the relevant website product page.
2. Copy the above file to a folder of your choice. This makes the files easy to locate for the rest of the installation.
3. Unzip/Extract the USB drivers file.
4. Connect the instrument to your computer using the USB cable supplied.
5. If communication is not possible check the driver is correctly installed in the Ports section of Device Manager (right-click Start/Device Manager).
6. If the USB driver is not installed correctly it will be shown with a yellow “!” and needs updating to change the location.
7. Right click on the driver and select ‘Update driver’.
8. Select ‘Browse my computer’ for drivers.
9, Navigate to the location that the driver was extracted to.
10. Check the driver is now in the Ports section of Device Manager.
11, If it is still not correct repeat from section 8 above.
Note in Ports (COM & LPT) the Megger Device now has a COM number and warning symbol has disappeared.
FAQ / Frequently Asked Questions
Megger offers three ranges: Essential, Advanced, and Expert.
- If you perform routine maintenance or go/no-go testing and don’t need internal data storage, an Essential instrument offers dependable performance and great value.
- If you need additional test modes or internal storage, choose an Advanced model.
- For noisy environments, high burn current, or remote testing, an Expert model is best.
Once you’ve chosen a range, simply pick the test voltage you need — 5 kV or 10 kV.
No. Essential instruments do not include internal memory or data export. If you require automatic storage, USB/Bluetooth transfer, or software integration, consider the Advanced or Expert ranges.
All Essential testers include the most commonly used test modes:
- Insulation Resistance (IR)
- Dielectric Absorption Ratio (DAR)
- Polarisation Index (PI)
They’re designed for simple, effective testing without unnecessary complexity.
Both instruments offer the same features and test modes. The only difference is the maximum output voltage:
- MIT515 goes up to 5 kV
- MIT1015 goes up to 10 kV

Re>Act Mode monitors reabsorption current after an insulation resistance test, so you can see when insulation is ready to retest. This helps reduce false readings caused by residual current and gives you more confidence in the next result.Relevant ranges: All.
Re>Act Mode helps reduce the risk of dangerous return voltages after a test. It shows whether reabsorption current is still present, helping users confirm when the asset is in a safer condition before disconnecting or retesting.Relevant ranges: All.
Yes. Re>Act Mode can reduce retest waiting time by showing when the asset is actually ready for the next test. This helps teams keep work moving without relying only on fixed discharge times.Relevant ranges: All.
PI Predictor™ estimates the Polarisation Index (PI) value before the full PI test has finished. This can reduce PI test time by up to 50%, helping teams make faster decisions when testing multiple assets.Relevant ranges: All.
Use PI Predictor™ when you need faster PI insight during routine testing. It’s especially useful when testing multiple motors, cables, or transformers and you need to reduce site time without losing diagnostic value.Relevant ranges: All.
No. Essential instruments don’t include internal memory or data export. If you need export to CertSuite Asset, you should choose an Advanced or Expert model.Relevant ranges: All.
