About the product

The FCC3450 3000 A flexible clamp meter is a Bluetooth® enabled flexible current clamp, designed for AC/DC voltage, frequency, continuity, and resistance measurements, as well as AC current up to 3000 A.

It measures True RMS voltage up to 1000 V AC/DC and comes with built- in display with 10 000 count resolution. As well as resistance, continuity, frequency, and capacitance for quick verifications,. iIt meets CAT IV 600 V and CAT III 1000 V AC/DC safety ratings.

Due to the length and flexibility of the coil, measurements can be made around large conductors, or those conductors inaccessible to a fixed-head clamp. Rogowski coils offer flexibility as they do not rely on a rigid iron core, making them easy to get around larger conductors and easy to get into tight confined spaces, this flexibility is a key advantage of the FCC3450.

Using Bluetooth, the FCC3450 can be paired with the free Megger Link™ app, giving you the ability to collect remote live readings or record measurements directly to your smart device for storage or report creation. The app is compatible with iOS and Android and allows you to capture trending and graphing data to share with your team or for faster diagnosis and detection of faults.

What applications can I use the FCC3450 in?

The flexibility of the FCC3450 allows it to be used in commercial and industrial applications, (General Electrical Test (GET) and Low Voltage Installation (LVI)). The instrument is a great fit for electric power transmission electric power transmission, load balancing on generators and three3-phase systems, welding, or pulsed power pulsed power applications.

What is the warranty period?

The FCC3450 comes with 3 years warranty.

What’s in the box?

The package includes a FCC3450 unit, test lead set, carry case, user guide, and 2x AAA batteries.

Troubleshooting

The flexible clamp meter does not turn on.

You may have a weak or dead battery. Simply turn off the clamp meter and remove the battery cover to replace the batteries on the unit.

The display is dim.

The meter displays the battery capacity when powering up. If the display is dim or 0 % is shown on the display when powering on, please replace the batteries.

Measuring phase-to-earth voltage trips my RCD.

The FCC3450 is not suitable for phase to earth voltage measurements on protected circuits with RCD/RCBO and GFCI devices fitted, due to the auto- select feature.

I am not getting accurate measurements.

When measuring current, move a single cable in the centre of the flexible clamp jaw to make it less prone to error. If measuring voltage or resistance with the test leads, check they are connected properly to the clamp. Inspect the test leads for damage.

I am unable to disconnect the clamp.

Check the clamp lock – turn the knob to unlock the clamp; turn the opposite way to lock. Ensure the locking ribs are aligned with the cutout when connecting the clamp back into the lock to avoid it getting jammed.

My clamp is not reading DC voltage.

Be sure not to measure any current beyond the rated current and make sure the wire is locked into the clamp (ensure you do not get too close to the coil during measurement).

When you use a clamp meter, ensure only one phase conductor at a time is clamped. When current flows to a conductor, it produces a magnetic field around the conductor. The more current, the stronger the magnetic field. The magnetic field induces a voltage into the clamp portion of the meter. Clamping around two or more conductors will cause the magnetic fields to cancel each other and the resultant reading, if not "zero", will be completely erroneous.

The FCC3450It will not pair with Android / iOS phone Megger Link app?

Make sure you have the latest version of the app installed as the app need to sometime be updated to keep up with the device’s latest updates. See “How do I download the mobile app?” in the FAQ section to check you are using the latest version.

Then, make sure Bluetooth is turned on in your mobile device settings. Verify that the Bluetooth icon is shown as ‘on’ in the top left corner of the display.

The FCC3450 keeps turning off after some time?

When turned on, the FCC34500 defaults to Auto Power Off (APO), this will turn the device off after 20 mins to save battery., To disable this, see “How to turn off the APO?” in this troubleshooting section.

How to turn off the APO

To disable Auto Power Off, push and hold the Bluetooth button when turning the FCC3450 on. When "OFF” appears on the LCD, release both buttons. The APO symbol on the display should not be visible.

I am unable to unlock / lock the flexible coil?

Turn the locking connector anti-clockwise to unlock the flexible coil. The locking connector stays attached to the body of the FCC3450 and only the coil that is in the middle is removed. Check the markings on the locking connector to ensure turning the correct way to lock and unlock the coil from the body of the FCC3450.

If the coil is in the unlocked position and doesn’t come out, it may need a wiggle to release the anti-rotation grooves to remove it.

“OL” or “-OL” is displayed on the screen.

If the measured signal exceeds the rated range of the FCC3450, “OL” or “–OL” will display on the screen due to an overload condition being detected. See the user guide for the max input range for the given function you are trying to use and ensure it is within the limits of the FCC3450

“.0L” is displayed on the screen.

This means that the FCC3450 has not detected any input on the leads, or the clamp if is not detecting any current. If using the lead and probes, ensure they are correctly connected, not damaged, and making good contact with what you are trying to measure.

If you are trying to measure current with the clamp, make sure you are only connected around one of the phases and the minimum current on the from the unit under test meets the lower limit of the FCC3450 specification. Also refer to the user guide for positioning of the clamp head on the conductor to ensure reliable reading.

Can’t perform phase-to-earth voltage measurement on RCD/RCBO and GFCI’s protected circuits

The FCC3450 is not suitable for measuring phase-to-earth voltage on RCD/RCBO or GFCI’s protected circuits due to the device defaulting to the “LoZ” mode. The FCC3450 defaults to 4 kΩ for input impedance until it detects a voltage >30 V at which point the impedance increases to >375 kΩ with an input voltage up to 1000 V. The switch over time from the device may be slow enough to trip the RCD/RCBO or GFCI’s device.

Note: Do not use the FCC3450 to measure voltages in circuits that could be damaged by the meters “LoZ” mode low impedance (approx. 4 kΩ).

How do I connect the FCC3450 Bluetooth to my phone?

First, make sure you have downloaded the Megger Link app (see “How do I download the mobile app?” in the FAQs i If not already downloaded). Turn on the Bluetooth function of the meter by pressing the “Bluetooth” button and open the Megger Link app to connect the DCM. The Bluetooth icon of the meter will flash whilst connecting and freeze on the LCD after the connection is established.

How to change the input selection?

The FCC3450 auto selects the measurements mode. The FCC3450 prioritizes any terminal input measurement over the flexible coil current measurement. The meter will default to show a resistance or continuity measurement and voltage if connected to the input terminals when making a current measurement.Removing any terminal input will cause the FCC3450 to return to displaying the measured current value if present. Position sensitivityThe positioning of the measured conductor is important when using a Rogowski coil style clamp. With its flexible sensors, the accuracy of the results is affected by the position of the conductor to the centre of the coil. The position sensitivity on the FCC3450 ranges from 1 % up to 2 %, depending on distance from the centre (table below).
