Diagnostics on High-Voltage Power Cables
We provide testing and diagnostics of MV/HV power cables in full compliance with international standards: PN-HD, IEC, IEEE, VDE, as well as with the internal requirements of major utilities: TSOs and DSOs.
The testing scope is tailored to the individual needs and requirements of each client.
Low-voltage tests (example scope):
- Visual inspection of assets
- Verification of cable line length
- Conductor continuity check
- Phase sequence verification
- Conductor and screen resistance measurement
- Cable capacitance measurement
- ISO measurement before and after HV pressure test (withstand volage test)
- Sheath testing inc. sheath fault localization
High-voltage tests (example scope):
- Monitored withstand voltage testing of cable lines using DAC or resonant AC (RTS) voltage
- Partial Discharge (PD) diagnostics of insulation, joints, and terminations, including localization of weak points in the cable (both conventional and advanced methods)
High-voltage tests
Diagnostics on High-Voltage Power Cables
Specialized services on MV/HV cable lines:
- 24/7 service
- fault location of cable lines (latest Centrix Evolution/Primeon solutions), as well as location using portable devices such as STX2000
- analysis and determination of causes of cable line faults carried out in cooperation with institutes and technical universities in Poland and abroad
Additionally, we offer measurements and monitoring of partial discharges (PD), both permanent and temporary, in order to determine the actual condition of electrical equipment such as:
- GIS switchgear
- Transformers
- Generators
Offshore Measurement Services
Offshore wind energy plays an increasingly important role in energy conversion strategy. To ensure the reliability of offshore wind farms, periodic testing of cable systems and electrical infrastructure is essential. With the rapid growth of offshore wind farms, diagnostic testing of submarine power cables (“offshore cables”) has become a global standard in renewable energy projects. These include MV subsea cables connecting offshore wind farms to the onshore grid, as well as MV inter-array cables linking individual turbines or integrating PV plants and wind generators into the park grid.
The new offshore wind farms e.g. in Baltic Sea will operate at 66 kV, currently the most common inter-array voltage level used in offshore applications (Uo = 38 kV RMS). Other common offshore voltage levels include 20 kV/33 kV, 50 kV, and transmission cables reaching up to 500 kV AC or DC. According to HD 620 S3, IEEE 400.4, and IEC 63026:2019, the recommended method for site acceptance testing (SAT) is AC resonant testing, where the test frequency is close to the power frequency.
However, for long offshore cables (10–20 km or more), AC resonant generators often face logistical and power limitations. In such cases, DAC (Damped AC) testing and diagnostic systems provide an effective solution:
- Systems capable of generating voltages up to 300 kV, with compact size and mobility
- Integrated PD measurement and localization module, including Tan Delta diagnostics
- PD measurements based on IEEE 400.4 and IEC 60270 standards using calibrated impedance systems
- Precise localization of weak points along the entire cable length and assessment of their criticality for continued operation
- Fast, user-friendly setup and operation enabling quick diagnostics and decision-making for repair or commissioning
Our solutions enable comprehensive assessment not only of transmission and distribution cables but also of individual turbine components and switchgear. In addition, containerized fault location systems are available for offshore cable fault detection and diagnostics.
