About the product

The Megger VF-T5 is Megger first non-contact Voltage Detector with build in IR temperature measurement. It has been designed to check for the presence of AC voltage indicated by a bright red LED situated within the white nylon tip, an audible sounder, plus vibration alert. The detector has both low voltage (12 V to 1000 V) and medium voltage (100 V to 1000 V) ranges. The VF-T5 has the added advantage of a bright white LED torch for use in poor light.

The VF-T5 is suitable for identifying live conductors, finding a break in a conductor, or verifying a blown fuse while in circuit, as well as for detecting AC voltages at socket outlets, switches, circuit breakers, fuses, cables, and luminaires.

What is the distance-to-spot ratio?

The Megger VF-T5 IR Thermometer has a 4:1 distance to spot ratio, and the thermometer only measures surface temperature.
The distance-to-spot tells you the diameter of the area being measured compared to the distance from the target. For example, the VF-T5 has a distance-to-spot ratio of 4:1, it measures an approximately one-inch-diameter spot when it's 4 inches away from the object.

Does the VF-T5 come in a hard case?

The VF-T5 doesn’t come with a hard case it design to be small and light with a pen clip so can easily be clipped to pocket or tucked away in tool box.

Does the VF-T5 have laser pointer?

Yes, the VF-T5 has a laser pointer that show the approximate centre of the measurement area. It's important to know that the laser is only a pointer and not used for the actual temperature measurement. Be aware that the thermometer is measuring the area illuminated by the laser beam. The measurement spot is always wider (see distance-to-spot ratio for more information).

Can I measure Shiny Objects?

Infrared thermometers have good accuracy when measuring most objects, but shiny, reflective surfaces can be a challenge. Reflections off of glossy paint can affect accuracy. Putting a piece of non-reflective tape (such as electrical tape) over the shiny surface or applying some flat paint gives you a target from which you can get a better measurement.
Not all materials emit the same amount of infrared energy when they are at the same temperature. Shiny metals generally emit less infrared energy than matt metals do. This is known as Emissivity which is expressed as a number between 0 and 1, with 0 being non-emissive and 1 being perfectly emissive. The VF-T5 is calibrated to measure most accurately an emissivity around 0.95 which is suitable for most surfaces.

Does it have Auto power off to save the batteries

Yes, to conserve battery life, the tester will automatically turn off after approximately 5 minutes of inactivity.
When powering down, the beeper will beep twice and all LED indicators will turn off.

Will I know when it is operating in low voltage range mode?
