Megger sets new standard for multifunction testers

The versatile and compact multifunction testers in Megger’s new MFT1800 range have been developed specifically to offer safe, fast and convenient testing of low voltage electrical installations in line with the IEC 60364 standard, which is widely used in Europe.

■ Type B RCD testing for solar installations and 3-phase RCD testing for industrial applications
■ Choice of 3-pole, 3-pole with attached rod technique, 2-pole and stakeless tests for earth electrode resistance measurement
■ Reverse polarity monitoring and correction on live tests
■ Phase rotation indication for verification of rotating machinery
■ Auto reversing continuity test of a choice of 200 mA and 15 mA test currents
■ On-board data storage and Bluetooth® download

Safety is imperative
The range includes three models, all of which combine robust yet lightweight IP54 construction with simple colour-coded test selection and a large clear backlit display. The testers offer many timesaving features, including two-wire non-trip loop testing, auto-start continuity testing and automatic testing of RCDs.

For maximum user safety and convenience, MFT1800 series testers have a CAT IV 300 V safety rating in line with IEC 61010, which means that they are suitable for use on any part of a low voltage installation, including the point where the supply enters the building. The testers are protected against damage if they are accidentally connected to a live circuit when set for a dead circuit test, even if the test sequence has already been started, and they incorporate visual and audible live circuit safety warnings.
Full function entry-level product
The entry-level model is the MFT1815, which offers insulation testing at 250 V and 500 V, 200 mA continuity testing, RCD testing for type A and AC RCDs, two-wire loop testing with non-trip and high-current options, and a touch voltage function. In addition, this keenly priced instrument has provision for measuring voltage, frequency and, when used with a suitable probe, temperature.

As with all models in the range, the MFT1815 has a large display that shows not only the main test result, but also useful additional information – for example, during an insulation test, the test voltage is shown as well as the insulation resistance. The display also includes a true analogue arc, which is a big timesaver on some types of test.
Popular product
The MFT1825 provides all of the functions and features of the MFT1815, but adds insulation testing at 1 kV, a battery-saving 15 mA continuity test feature, and an extended range of RCD tests including automatic RCD testing and the ability to test type S RCDs. The MFT1825 also has a phase rotation feature, and facilities for testing three-phase RCDs. When used with the optional accessory earth stake kit, this instrument can also measure earth electrode resistance using two- and three-pole techniques.
Professional product
At the top of the range is the MFT1835, which has similar measurement capabilities to the MFT1825, but also has provision for internal storage of up to 1,000 test results. A facility for downloading the results via a Bluetooth wireless link is provided.

The MFT1835 offers an extended range of earth electrode resistance testing options, with support for the three pole ART and stakeless techniques, and it can also test type B (pure dc) RCDs. In addition, the MFT1835 is powered by rechargeable batteries that can be recharged without removing them from the instrument.

Ready to work

All multifunction installation testers in Megger’s new MFT1800 range are supplied in a robust carrying case that, despite its convenient size, has ample room to accommodate test leads, small tools and calibration certificates as well as the instrument itself, which can be stored in the case without the need to unplug the test leads. The testers have a three-year warranty, and are supplied as standard with a mains lead complete with appropriate Schuko type plug, a three-wire lead set, a switched probe, a twelve-month calibration certificate and a set of batteries
